We received a call from a client in Danville wanting to add her newborn onto her medical insurance. She had given birth around the middle of August and got caught up with so many things that finally she had time to get her baby onto her health plan. But since she had given birth more than 30 days ago, she had to fill out an Employee Addition Enrollment form which we forward to the carrier to be processed. Had she called within 30 days after childbirth, no forms were necessary and a phone call would have sufficed to add another dependent under her plan. Moreover, her baby is automatically insured for the first 30 days after birth, including any medication taken. That’s why it is always advisable not to forget to add your baby as your health dependent within a month after he/she is born to avoid any lapse of coverage in health care.
